Gas Grills Buying Guide

There are many reasons to choose an outdoor gas grill, not least the fact that they are so convenient. Gas grills offer you the chance to have an easy to use, easy to clean way of cooking outdoors. You can fuel your gas grill with either natural gas or with propane gas cylinders. Natural gas is a less expensive option than propane gas and can be connected to the natural gas supply in your home. A gas grill can be free standing or it can be built in to an outdoor fireplace – the choice is yours. The downside of using propane gas cylinders is that you could find that the cylinder runs out while you are using it, but most people would overcome this problem by always having a spare tank in the wings.

Gas grills offer a competitive advantage over charcoal grills in that there are no messy ashes to clean up after use. They light almost instantaneously and you can be sure of even heat throughout the grill. Charcoal grills depend on the lighting of charcoal with lighter fluid and this can take up to an hour before all the coals are lighting and the flames have died down before you can put the food on to grill. You can never be sure that all the coals will light and thus you cannot be sure that there is even heat throughout the grill. Another advantage of the gas grill is that it cools down much quicker than a charcoal grill which can take hours to cool. Gas grills usually use aluminium or stainless steel burners and these naturally cool much quicker than briquettes on a charcoal grill.

Gas grills offer other options also. They give you the option of adding items such as a rotisserie to the grill. This gives you the choice of grilling large pieces of meat. An electric rotisserie will allow you to cook these large pieces of meat slowly with the rotisserie doing all the work. This can allow you to sit down with family and friends and enjoy a glass of wine and some chat while your gas grill attends to the food. Closing the hood of the gas grill means that you can preserve all the flavours inside the unit while the meat is cooking. Charcoal grills do not have the option of adding a rotisserie.

Gas grills are far more convenient for people who like to entertain. They are quicker and cleaner than charcoal grills. Charcoal grills do not usually cater for large numbers as the briquettes will only keep their heat for so long but a gas grill will continue to burn for as long as you keep it on. The only disadvantage a gas grill seems to have is its lack of portability. Some gas grills can be taken to picnics etc but they are less commonly used in this way. Most people will still use the charcoal grills for camping out or for taking to other events but if you want your grill for cooking outdoors often or for entertaining guests, then a gas grill would be the better option.
